St Raphael Guest House York
VISIT WEBSITE

At Jorvik Viking Centre you are standing on the site which revealed some of the most famous and astounding discoveries in modern archaeology. Between the years 1976-81, archaeologists from York Archaeological Trust found the houses, workshops and backyards of the Viking-Age city of Jorvik, as it stood 1,000 years ago.

Your first experience of Jorvik is an exploration of the Coppergate Dig, with a fully immersive display taking you back to the 1970s. Here you will hear the stories of the archeologists who were involved in the revolutionary excavation and helped piece together the story of the Viking of Jorvik, where they came from, how they lived and where they travelled to.

York Minster

St Raphael Guest House York
VISIT WEBSITE

The Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of Saint Peter in York, commonly known as York Minster, is the cathedral of York, England, and is one of the largest of its kind in Northern Europe. The minster is the seat of the Archbishop of York, the second-highest office of the Church of England, and is the mother church for the Diocese of York and the Province of York.

York Minster is run by a dean and chapter, under the Dean of York. The title “minster” is attributed to churches established in the Anglo-Saxon period as missionary teaching churches, and serves now as an honorific title. Services in the minster are sometimes regarded as on the High Church or Anglo-Catholic end of the Anglican continuum.

York Chocolate Story

St Raphael Guest House York
VISIT WEBSITE

At York’s Chocolate Story you can discover the stories behind the greatest names in chocolate, unwrap the secrets of chocolate making, and even learn the art of the chocolatier for yourself. A fully guided tour and three floors of interactive exploration take you on a journey through the city where chocolate made history.

While other British cities were built on steel, coal or wool, York’s fame and fortune have rested on chocolate for almost 300 years: thanks to the vision and invention of its great entrepreneurial families, not to mention the industry and dedication of its people. Though much has changed over the centuries, York remains the UK’s home of chocolate.

Yorkshire Air Museum

St Raphael Guest House York
VISIT WEBSITE

The Allied Air Forces Memorial and Yorkshire Air Museum is a living memorial to all allied air forces personnel particularly those during the Second World War, and especially the tens of thousands of young people who gave their lives in that conflict. The aim is to be relevant to present day generations by explaining, in a realistic way, what life was like on a typical wartime bomber station, as well as displaying the history of aviation.

Yorkshire has a particular place in aviation, both historically and present day. From Sir George Cayley, the world renowned Father of Aeronautics, to present day aircraft manufacturerers. We are justly proud of the region’s heritage, and throughout the museum you can explore aspects of design and technology dating from the 1850s right up to the present day.

York Art Gallery

St Raphael Guest House York
VISIT WEBSITE

York Art Gallery is a public art gallery with a collection of paintings from 14th-century to contemporary, prints, watercolours, drawings, and ceramics. It closed for major redevelopment in 2013, reopening in summer of 2015.

York Ghost Walk

St Raphael Guest House York
VISIT WEBSITE

The Ghost Hunt of York offers an evening, walking ghost tour of York`s haunted locations.

Whatever the weather and always on time, the Victorian guide with his frock coat, top hat and Gladstone bag manifests at the strike of half past seven at the bottom of Shambles, England’s most famous mediaeval street. Ringing his death bell he gathers the awaiting ghost hunters and leads on to York`s darker side.

The Ghost Hunt presents classic York ghost stories in a captivating style, no tardy tales of tedium but intelligent, energetic accounts from a guide with a predilection for fun and entertainment, illustrating the narrative with props and illusion.

Excellent guest house at St Raphael’s in York

Highly recommended guest house at St Raphael’s. Lovely rooms, close to York within easy walking distance, fabulous breakfast with freshly home made bread every morning. Our hosts were very welcoming and friendly. Sunny breakfast room with a large window. When we next visit York we will return and have no hesitation in recommending for a super stay.

Stay here

This guest house is an easy walk from the train station. Al and Les are super friendly and will give all the help you need…both before and during arrival. The rooms are quiet and its very close to the main sites. We arranged a rent a car to travel on. The care hire came around and picked us up. Breakfast was outstanding. Its hard to imagine how one could improve on the b & b. Highly recommended.

Wonderful hospitality – absolutely the best B & B ever!

We stayed 6 nights and woke up each morning to the aroma of freshly baked bread! The room was impeccably clean and smelled wonderful every single day thanks to the beautiful fresh roses. The hosts were fantastic – warm, welcoming and lovely to be around. This place really is an example of the very best B & B – we would not stay anywhere else in York. St Raphael deserves it’s great reputation – a lot of hard work goes into every thoughtful aspect of the rooms and services provided. Well done!!!!

The owners couldn’t have been anymore friendly, helpful and welcoming. The guest house and bedroom was immaculate and homely. The breakfast selection and quality was amazing! Would definitely return – planning another visit with our children. The location was perfect. A very short and scenic stroll into the city. Check in and parking was made very easy. Thank you for a very memorable weekend.

What a great find!

Although I’m not one for writing reviews, we had such a wonderful experience here that I thought it was in order. First of all — perfect location to the old town, about a five minute walk. Second – beautiful rooms and a cooked to order breakfast. Finally – wonderful people! I give St. Raphael a five-star salute!
